Guys of The New 52: Superman

Today's post is the first in a series spotlighting the guys of DC Comics "New 52" reboot.  It's fitting that the first post features the one and only Superman.  Most of the pics show off Supes' new brief-less costume design, although a couple feature Superman donning a T-shirt and jeans.

The pics come from Action Comics #1 and #2, Superman #1, and Justice League #1.  Jim Lee, Jesus Merino, Rags Morales, and Ethan Van Sciver provide the art.

Young Justice

Let's get 2011 off to a great start with a post featuring the guys of Cartoon Network's newest action series Young Justice.  The screencaps in today's post are from the pilot, which aired in November.  The show starts airing regularly later this month.

I liked the pilot and its unique take on the characters.  It's sort of what I expected the Teen Titans cartoon to be like.

The image archive for today's post features over 200 bonus screencaps.

Superman: Earth One

Unlimited Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire

Superman: Earth One is the new original graphic novel that presents a more "modern" take on Superman's origins.  Written by J. Michael Straczynski and featuring art by Shane Davis, this book is so popular that it actually sold out on Amazon.com.

It seems that what you think of this book is based mostly off your previous experience with Superman.  People who like Superman seem to not like it as much as those who hated Superman in the past.  Personally, I'm somewhat in the middle.  I like the art a lot.  However, the story is sort of hit or miss.  There are some things I like and some things I didn't.  Overall, I'm definitely looking forward to more.

Check out some more scans below.

More DC Universe Online

Unlimited Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire

It's been nearly a year since the previous post about the (still) upcoming MMORPG DC Universe Online.  The last post contained only line art.  Today's post contains mostly CG character renders.

There's more art of each of the characters that I didn't post, so there is a bonus archive linked at the end of the post. The game is still set to come out sometime this year.

Happy Halloween 2009 - Comics

This year for Halloween, I'm posting two different posts to celebrate.  This first post is dedicated to comics and the second one (which will be posted later today) will be dedicated to anime/manga.

This first post features scans from both the 2008 and 2009 DC Universe Halloween specials.

From the 2008 special comes two interesting scans involving Superman.  Jimmy Olsen dresses up as Superman at the Daily Planet's Halloween party in the first one.  In the second one, the man himself gives out candy and the kids aren't buying it.  Matthew Clark does the pencils here:

And in the 2009 special, Guy Gardner gathers his fellow Green Lanterns for a Halloween shindig.  I really wish this story was longer because then we'd get more than a glimpse at the wifebeater-wearing Kyle Rayner and the shirtless Hal Jordan.  Mark Bagley did the pencils for these:

Look for the anime/manga Halloween post later today!

Superboy and Superman

It's nice to see Superboy back in action in Adventure Comics.  I'm also glad they kept his costume, which is just a simple T-shirt and jeans.

Today's post features Superboy by himself and paired up with Superman.  The scans come from Adventure Comics #1 and Blackest Night: Superman #1 and feature artwork/pencils by Francis Manapul and Eddy Barrows respectively.

"Last" Time and New Beginning

Every time I think a comic is the last one we'll see of Dick Grayson as Nightwing, DC comes out with something else.  Batman #687 may very well be the "last" time we'll see Dick as Nightwing unless it's a flashback.  Ed Benes does the pencils for the pages below:

Then, in Batman #688, we get to see Dick as Batman.  I like him as Batman thus far (Batman & Robin is definitely worth checking out).  I wonder how long will he stay Batman.  Will it be something that's undone in a year or two (like the deaths of Superman and Captain America) or will it be semi-permanent (like the different Robins/Flashes)?  Mark Bagley does the pencils in the scans below:
