All-Request Week 2010 Extra: Saiunkoku
Today's post is another All-Request Week 2010 Extra post where I catch up on the leftover requests from All-Request Week 2010. The same person who requested Kyou Kara Maou also requested more pics of the guys from The Story of Saiunkoku.
This post features a mix of manga, novel, and anime artwork.

Saiunkoku in Black and White
The occasional "...in Black and White" series continues today with The Story of Saiunkoku. Saiunkoku started off as a light novel series. Apart from the cover (and maybe one or two illustrations), most illustrations in light novels are monochrome just like manga. All of the scans in today's post come from the original novels with Kairi Yura behind the art.

More Saiunkoku
Before becoming a long-running anime of roughly 80 episodes across two seasons, The Story of Saiunkoku was a series of novels written by Sai Yukino and featuring illustrations by Kairi Yura. Today's post only features Yura's illustrations. In addition to illustrating the novels, she also did the manga version of the story.
The vast majority of the scans in this post were done by Saa-chan and you can find many more scans on her LJ.

The Story of Saiunkoku

The Story of Saiunkoku (aka Saiunkoku Monogatari) is another anime (based on a series of novels) featuring a girl surrounded by a bunch of hot guys. Unlike the other shows like this I've featured on HFG, this one is more of a fantasy that takes place in a fictional, medieval China-esque world.
This means long hair, flowing robes, and guys who are more beautiful than anything else. Stuff like that sometimes really appeals to me.
The first season of the anime was licensed by Geneon Entertainment in the U.S. but only two volumes came out before Geneon went under. The second season of the show has been fansubbed and is not licensed for release in the U.S.
