I happened across a really interesting article about yaoi recently and since HFG has featured a lot of yaoi artwork, I thought I'd mention it here.
"Yaoi For Parents, A Crash Course in Boys' Love" is a three-part series by Shaenon K. Garrity on Graphic Novel Review that is a great introduction for anyone that's unfamiliar with it. Even if you're a fan, it's still an interesting read. My favorite part of the series is probably the first part, which gives a nice history of yaoi's origins.
Each part is kind of long but the read is well worth your time. Check out the links below to read the series:
Part One: The History of Yaoi
Part Two: Why Yaoi?
Part Three: Reading Yaoi

Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto
Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto is an anime series created by Ryosuke Takahashi and the good folks at Sunrise, best known for such popular works as Code Geass and the Gundam universe. It's takes place in Japan during the Bakumatsu period of history (~1850s).
This isn't exactly a very well-known series and the fact that it only aired over the Internet in Japan (and never on TV) doesn't help things. The Wikipedia entry makes the show sound interesting, though. This series is not yet licensed for release in America but it seems like one of those underrated shows that a fan-centric company could bring over.

Crimson Spell
Crimson Spell is a yaoi manga by Yamane Ayano. The story is sort of a sexual Jekyll and Hyde. A young prince is cursed and enlists the help of a sorcerer to help him lift the curse. The curse turns him into a bloodthirsty (and horny) demon at night. The only way the sorcerer can subdue the demon is to have sex with him. The prince never has any memories of anything he does as the demon.
Crimson Spell is available in English in America from Kitty Media.

Fist Of The North Star
Fist of The North Star is an old-school manga/anime created by Tetsuo Hara and Buronson It's a fighting series in a post-apocalyptic Earth and is known for its ultra-violence. This property has had a lot of different forms apart from the original manga series including multiple anime adaptations, manga spinoffs, and even a live-action movie.
Most of the pics come from the manga, although there are a couple of anime pics too.

Skip Another Beat
Today's post features more of the guys from the long-running shoujo manga Skip Beat. In the last Skip Beat post, I mentioned trying to find some anime artwork. I've found that there really isn't much of it out there. Despite that, I have included one anime pic.

Yasashii Ryuu no Koroshikata
Yasashii Ryuu no Koroshikata (aka The Killing Method of A Kind Dragon) is a light novel and manga series by Tsumori Tokio and Katou Eriko. I don't know much about this series (and the description on Manga-Updates is only semi-helpful) but I do know that the art drew my eye.
This series has yet to be licensed for release in America. After seeing this art, one can dream.
